Launch of .рф domain names

The Russian Registry is launching a Priority Registration phase for the introduction of the IDN .рф TLD, the Cyrillic version of .rf from 25th November 2009 until the 25th March 2010 for Government Agencies and Trademark Holders. Actual registrations are proposed to become active one month after the approval of the TLD which could be around Q2 2010 (exact date to be announced).

Why you should apply for .рф domain names

Russia´s new top level domain in Cyrillic characters - .рф (.RF) has been designed for the 45 million Russian Internet users, as they use Cyrillic characters (not Latin). Until now they have had to settle for the Latin .ru. .рф (.RF) domains are expected to be the locally preferred domain and will therefore be very interesting for companies doing business in Russia. Both to protect and promote local brand names as domains, but also to obtain the keyword rich domain names defining your business

Who can apply for .рф domain names

Priority applications will be allowed for holders of Russian trademarks or international trademarks valid in Russia. The domain name must be an exact-match of the Trademark, so teh wording of the trademark has to be in Cyrillic. Only the word-elements of the Trademark are allowed in the domain name.

Priority Registrations are handled on a first-come/first-served basis. Therefore, should more than one application be received for the same domain name, the first order received will take precedence.

Which documents are required

- Russian Registered Trademark certificate
- International trademark certificate indicating validity in Russia. This document must be stamped with the Registrant's company stamp.
- Certificate of the registered legal entity for the owner of the trademark, or any documents that prove registration of the legal entity according to the laws of the country, where legal entity is registered (e.g. Business Registration Certificate).
