DENIC to release One and Two character Domain Names from 23 October 2009
DENIC the .de Registry operator has just announced that they will relax the rules on registration for almost all formerly restricted .de domains on 23 October at 0700 UTC. This will include one and two character domains and will be available on a strictly first come first served basis. The new relaxed rules will be:
- One and two character domains (including domain names composed exclusively of numbers).
- Domains identical to existing TLDs (e.g. com.de, net.de, biz.de etc.).
- Domains identical with combinations of letters that are used for German motor-vehicle number plates characters allowed: digits 0-9, hyphen (-), the letters a-z of the Latin alphabet and the other IDN characters used in the German language (á, à, ă, č, ĝ, ń etc.).
- A domain must not begin nor end with a hyphen.
- A domain must not have hyphens as both its third and fourth characters.
- The maximum length of a domain is 63 characters excluding the .de.
Applications for registration will be accepted by DENIC on 23 October 2009 at 0700 UTC. We will open a pre-order queue prior to 23 October (start date to be announced shortly). All applications will be submitted in the order that they are received. The queue will close on Thursday 22 October at 1200 UTC. Please contact us at support@europeandomaincentre.com if you wish to be informed when the queue is up and running. More about .de
