A new study from FairWinds Partners reported that the companies owning the 250 most trafficked websites are losing over 448 million impressions a year through domains that are misspelled. These potential visitors are led to typosquatters´ websites instead, and it is a lucrative business estimated around USD 350 millions per year. Not only top traffic sites are under fire. Most brands are experiencing abuse of their brand through typosquatting.

Will .co domains be big?

(20/07/2010 3:31 pm)

Another top level domain launch and once again the question: Will .CO domains be big? We have had numerous domain launches the last years and more are yet to come. .asia, .tel, .mobi, .rf etc. However I believe that the .co domain launch is special.

There´s a story behind. Back in 1995 there were talks whether .com or .co should be launched as the commercial main top level domain. Why .com instead of .co? .co is even one character less and just as easy to remember. After the initial rejection, the idea behind .co stuck however, and many country hostmasters introduced later their top level domain with .co. To name a few; co.uk, co.in, co.hu etc. Anyway, justice for all, now 15 years later .co is finally launched for the general public on 20th July 2010.

Have you lost contact to Buydomains.dk? Or another dubious domain registrar? Here we´ll explain you how to get back control of your domains.

As in any business there are trusted, well-managed companies and then there are companies who are less ethical. As entry barriers are relatively low to start up in the domain registration business,we have our share of rotten apples. This is not to say that Buydomains.dk fall into this category, however many of their clients are simply not able to get hold of their domains and transfer them to another domain registrar.

What You Must Know regarding Global Domain Registrations

(16/04/2010 1:05 pm)

More than once we have heard this regret from companies; "If We had just registered our Global Domain Names before our brand got known." When your brand is well known, surely opportunistic cybersquatters will register your rightful domains. Therefore register your global domain names in time, and do it before any trademark application, as applications are made public and are widely used as "inspiration" for cybersquatters.

What you need to consider before transferring a domain

(05/06/2009 12:17 pm)

There is one decisive factor when transferring domains to another registrar. You need to make sure that the registrar offers the same top level domains that you wish to transfer. Secondly, think about the future domain registrations. Is Slovenia part of your market, and your registrar does not offer a .si doman then you are back to square one. Generally the reason for transferring domains is to make life easier, so you should not start all over again having to find a new registrar offering the Slovenian domain.

6 steps to local landing page optimization

(22/05/2009 10:45 pm)

This article is especially directed towards creating landing pages directed at a local country. The following landing page optimization basics will rank you in Google. Consider first if the landing page should be part of your web site or a stand alone landing page. If it is a stand alone landing page, then make sure to add it to the search engines (Google, Yahoo). In another article I described the importance of securing local keyword domains to attract local web traffic.

Google ranking: Why you should use .nl for your Dutch language web site

(22/04/2009 1:39 pm)

It is a proven fact that Google gives importance in their ranking when a web site is using a local country domain. Let´s say that you have a Dutch language version of your web site then a .nl domain is much stronger for search engine optimization than www.yourcompany.com/nl. The ccTLDs (.de, .nl, .co.uk,.es etc) will provide geo-targeted and often exclusive traffic . A user based in the Netherlands searching on Google.nl will find you easier, than if you only had the .com version.

Check your WHOIS email !

(26/02/2009 11:43 am)

Ask yourself this question: Will the registrant email you use for domain registrations exist even if you l were not in the company anymore?
The golden rule is to ensure that the contact email is not dependent on a specific employee. It is rare that an employee stays with a company forever, so the WHOIS (official registrant data) contact email has to outlive any person. You can always update your admin or billing contact email with us with a click, but the WHOIS email is not so easy to change.

Abusing Fiat´s brand

(31/10/2008 4:39 pm)

Based on the 10 most common terms used for .com brand abuse we have looked at the case of Fiat the Italian car manufacturer. For such a strong brand in the car industry it was expected that their IP rights are well protected. The reality appears to be different for their .com domains. The fact is that they are missing out on valuable web traffic which is being directed to pay per click (PPC) sites linking mostly to their competition. Secondly, anyone expecting to visit the web site of Fiat is only one click away from "Congratulations, you are the one millionth visitor" pop ups - not great brand protection. This is a prime example of cybersquatting.

Here are the results:
